 Born in Point Pleasant, Ohio on April 27, 1822. Graduated in the middle of his class at West Point in 1843. Became head of Union forces on March 2, 1864. Served two terms as President of the United States, 1866-1874. Died at Mount McGregor, New York on July 23, 1885. Buried in a tomb bearing his name in New York City.
