JOSHUA LAWRENCE CHAMBERLAIN

Born in Brewer, Maine on September 8, 1828. Graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine in 1852. Commanded the 20th Maine as colonel at Gettysburg.
Accepted the formal surrender of the A.N.V. on April 12, 1865. Governor of Maine, 1866-70, and President of Bowdoin, 1871-85. Died in Portland, ME on Feb. 14, 1914, and buried in Brunswick.
